Would you welcome help with preparing your son or daughter for their teenage years? Perth & Kinross Council’s Strengthening Families course provides support to families with young people aged 10 to 12 to help prepare for becoming a teenager, which can be a challenging time for everyone involved.
The free seven-week courses are being held in locations around Perth and Kinross and begin over the coming weeks, with the latest starting on Saturday 27th August at North Inch Community Campus in Perth. The sessions are generally held in the evenings and each lasts 2 ½ hours, with a crèche and evening meals provided. In the first hour parents and young people meet in their own groups to take part in activities with group workers. In the second hour everyone comes together again to be involved in a family activity.
Strengthening Families offers lots of practical tips for parents and carers on setting boundaries in a positive way, developing and maintaining positive parent-child relationships and age-appropriate expectations. Feedback from previous participants has shown that parents really value having a chance to share ideas with other parents, as well as having one on one time with their sons/daughters during family activity time.
