Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

The Scottish Progression Award (SPA) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at Intermediate 2 has been developed as a foundation course for all individuals considering a career in the motor industry

This SPA is made up of nine introductory motor vehicle units totalling seven credits and is taught over a two year period.

Effective working Practices                                                 Int1      (0.5 credit)

Vehicle Construction and Periodic Maintenance           Int1      (0.5 credit)

Engine, Cooling, Lubrication and Crankcase
Ventilation Systems                                                              Int2      (1.5 credit)

Spark Ignition Systems                                                        Int2      (0.5 credit)

Fuel Supply Systems                                                           Int2      (1 credit)

Manual Transmission Systems                                         Int2      (0.5 credit)

Steering, Suspension and Braking Systems                  Int2      (1 credit)

This is taught through a combination of theory and ‘hands on’ experience.

Progression is to the Modern Apprenticeship or related Motor Vehicle SVQs.

At present we have 5 S3 pupils following the course and there is a full class to start from the
new S3 after the timetable change over.
