3 September 2009

Dear Parent/Carer(s)

Following correspondence from The Scottish Government I write to advise of the new eligibility for entitlement to Free School Meals.  This will be effective from 3 August 2009 and so the following criteria will be used for applications received now for school session beginning 19 August.

Pupils are eligible for free school meals if parents/carers are in receipt of one of the following:

*           Income Support (IS)

*           Income based Job Seeker's Allowance (IBJSA)

*           Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance

*           Child Tax Credit (CTC), but not Working Tax Credit, and your income is less than £16,040 (as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs)

*           Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Working Tax Credit (WTC) and your income is less than £6,420 (as assessed by the Inland Revenue)

*           If you are between 16 and 18 years old and receive any of these benefits in your own right, you can claim free school meals for yourself.

*           You may also be eligible if you are an asylum seeker receiving support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

Application forms are available from the School Office.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Scott
