Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a life-changing experience. Through the unique DofE programme, pupils can discover new talents, develop essential skills for life and have fun with friends.

Any 14-24 year old can do their DofE. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s about setting challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

DofE has three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. For each level, you need to do four or five sections. They are:

  • Volunteering
  • Physical
  • Skills
  • Expedition
  • Residential (Gold only)

Completing the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award is a brilliant way for our pupils to challenge themselves, gain confidence and achieve.  Along the way, pupils have the opportunity to learn new skills, form new friendships,  and make a difference in our community. Future employers and further education bodies also recognise this award and historically our pupils have used it to demonstrate their skills and experiences.

The award scheme is also a great way to build resilience as many of the sections can at times push pupils to do something that may be new or unfamiliar to them.

We are fortunate at Breadalbane Academy that as result of our rural location, we have lots of exciting locations within close proximity to our school to undertake our expeditions.  Typically, these are completed via foot and include camping in an ‘off grid’ location supported by staff, parents and members of our community.

Recruitment for DofE at Breadalbane Academy starts in S3 and progresses through the senior phase.

Pupils should speak to the following staff for more information:

  • (S3) Bronze: Ms Lumsden & Mr Clarke
  • (S4) Silver: Mrs Neilson & Miss Cooper
  • (S5/6) Gold: Mrs MacKay (Librarian)
