School of Sport

In May 2025, we launched our school sport programme, GROW (Goals, Resilience, Opportunity, Wellbeing).

GROW is a bespoke model comprising three School Sport Programmes—Volleyball, Rugby and Aesthetics —designed to support pupil development through structured physical activity. The programme is delivered to all S1–S3 pupils, with clear progression pathways into the senior phase and opportunities to gain leadership qualifications delivered through Active Schools.

Pupils in S1 and S2 participate in two periods per week, while S3 pupils receive one period per week in their chosen activity.

Aligned to Level 4 Experiences and Outcomes, the programme develops personal qualities, cognitive skills, physical competences and physical fitness. Through this approach, GROW contributes to improved attainment across the school by fostering a strong sense of belonging, building self-belief and resilience, encouraging collaboration and supporting pupils to achieve.

The programme promotes both physical and mental wellbeing by developing pupils’ understanding of growth mindset principles and healthy lifestyle choices. In collaboration with the Home Economics department, S1 pupils research the nutritional requirements of an athlete in their chosen activity and prepare an appropriate meal, reinforcing the link between diet, performance and wellbeing.
