| What are the main aims of this course?
The aims of Higher History are to acquire breadth and depth in the knowledge and understanding of historical themes and to develop skills of explaining historical developments and events, evaluating sources and drawing conclusions.

| What content is included in this course?
British – Britain 1851-1951 Development of the United Kingdom into a modern democracy and the development of the role of the state in the welfare of its citizens. Themes: authority, ideology and rights. World – Germany 1815-1939 The growth of nationalism in 19th century Germany leading to the overcoming of obstacles to unification of the nation by 1871, and the development of extreme nationalism after 1918. Themes: nationalism, authority and conflict. Paper 2 – Students will investigate a Scottish issue which creates the foundation of paper 2: the source paper. The key skills they will build upon from national 5 are the explain, how fully, evaluate the usefulness and differing interpretations. Scottish – Migration and Empire Population movement and social and economic change in Scotland and abroad between 1830 and 1939. Themes: empire, migration and identity. |

Students are encouraged to think critically for themselves. They will learn to write clear, structured essays and to compare, analysis and evaluate information, |
| How will I be assessed on this course?
There are three components: two question paper and an assignment, both of which are marked by the SQA. Paper I is marked out of 44 and consists of two essays – one on Britain and one on the USA. Paper II consists of 4 document based questions and is marked out of 36.
The assignment is marked out of 30 and is based on research skills and a degree of personal choice. This assignment is written in school and then marked by the SQA.. There will also be regular learner check ins and homework |

There will be regular homework to consolidate class work and prepare for assessment. The assignment will give an opportunity for independent learning, |
