RME S2 Course Plan

  • Curriculum Area:

    Term 1 - World Religions

    Curriculum for Excellence ‘Benchmark’

    Particular focus on the following benchmarks:

    • Investigates and analyses at least one issue of belief, drawing upon sources to explain responses from Christianity, at least one World Religion, and at least one belief group independent of religion.
    • Analyses the relationship between own beliefs and actions.
    • Investigates, explains and analyses the importance of at least two from a tradition, a practice, a ceremony, a custom, a way of marking a major life event in Christianity, at least one World Religion, and at least one belief group independent of religion.

    Activity

    • Buddhism: Create a poster which demonstrates understanding of a Buddhist parade
    • Analyse own actions through the five precepts
    • Compare a Buddhist rite of passage with a Christian one through investigation (sources, customs)
    • Analyse through metaphor “The Matrix” and Buddhism

    Term 2 - Global Citizenship

    • Take part in slave ship exercise
    • Analyse treatment of other human beings through ‘chocolate’

    • Discuss own beliefs about creation of the universe
    • Analyse biblical quotes – compare to science
    • Watch “Universe “ with Stephen Hawking
    • Read about 6 belief systems
    • Draw a belief about creation (Academic Poster)
    • Evaluate own beliefs with new knowledge of Ockham’s Razor, science, cosmological arguments, Christianity and Judaism.
